KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The third-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer's 10-game win streak to start the year has come to an end as the Golden Bears take their first loss of the season in a hard-fought, 2-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division game to West Chester Saturday afternoon at Keystone Field.
The Maroon and Gold started the game off fast, with
Kayla Argen's (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) seventh goal of the year, assisted by
Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford), in only the sixth minute of the game. Kutztown's offense applied pressure throughout the first half against the Golden Rams defense, out shooting West Chester 6-2.
The Golden Rams came out of halftime on fire and quickly tied things up at 1-1, as Maggie Lena found the back of the net in the 47th minute on an assist from teammate Kaitlynn Hughey.
The roles would be reversed in the second half, as the Golden Rams were applying offensive pressure on the Golden Bears, out shooting Kutztown 5-2.
West Chester would take the lead late in the game with less than five minutes remaining and hold off any Kutztown advances to close out the game.
Kutztown will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 13, as it heads to Shepherd and will look to get back in the win column.
