SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore forward
Isabella Rossetti (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) scored two first half goals to lead the fifth-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team to a 2-1 road victory Wednesday afternoon at Shepherd University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division action.
The Golden Bears (11-1 overall, 9-1 PSAC East) bounced back from their only loss of the season in their last game, last Saturday, Oct. 9, against now-No. 24 West Chester. KU remains at the top of the East standings ahead of second place WCU (6-2-1, 6-2-1).
Rossetti's goals came in quick succession, just 2:14 apart from each other in the 35th and 37th minutes to stake Kutztown to a 2-0 lead, one which it would take into the halftime intermission. Her first goal was assisted by
Sadie Goad (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley).
The Rams (3-7-1, 2-7-1), however, would quickly respond out of the break, earning a penalty kick within the second minute after the second half whistle. Sara Hohn converted the kick from the spot with 43:05 left to play.
But the KU defense wouldn't allow much of anything from that point on. KU allowed just two total shots all game and outshot Shepherd 26-2 overall and 14-2 on goal, while also holding a 10-0 advantage in corners. Sophomore goalie
Emme Wolfel (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) finished with one save for the victory.
Kutztown will return home for its next game, this Saturday, Oct. 16, when it hosts East Stroudsburg. KU took down the Warriors on the road, 4-0, back on Saturday, Sept. 11.
