No. 5 Field Hockey edged by No. 1 Shippensburg in overtime Saturday

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) scored the game-tying goal with just 1:08 left on the scoreboard in regulation to send the game to overtime. But the fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team was downed by a golden goal, 2:48 into the overtime period and top-ranked Shippensburg came away with a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon in a nationally-ranked Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game at Andre Reed Stadium.

Donato's second goal on the year gave the Golden Bears (8-3 overall, 2-2 PSAC) life just at the end of the game when they needed something to happen. But Jenna Sluymer, who scored the game's opening goal in the fourth minute, doubled her tally 2:48 into the overtime period to leave Kutztown with a victory.

The Raiders (10-0, 5-0) outshot the Maroon and Gold 23-10 overall and 16-5 on goal. Ship also held a 12-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior goalie Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with a career-high 13 saves.

Kutztown will hit the road to play at nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg next Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m., looking to get back into the win column.
