EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – In a rematch of a previous one-goal game in the last matchup, the sixth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team and fifth-ranked East Stroudsburg once again had their latest game decided by a single goal. For KU, however, ESU once again came out on the winning end, scoring a second quarter goal to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field at East Stroudsburg.
Â
The Golden Bears (8-4 overall, 2-3 PSAC) have hit a rough patch in their schedule, with three straight defeats, albeit to three nationally-ranked teams in Millersville, Shippensburg and the Warriors (11-3, 5-1). Last Saturday's game against the Raiders (11-0, 6-0) was also decided by just one goal, 2-1 in overtime.
Â
After a scoreless opening quarter, East Stroudsburg broke the deadlock off the stick of Morgan Mesenbrink in the 21st minute in the second quarter. That would be all that ESU would need as its defense gave the Maroon and Gold offense fits all day. Kutztown would muster up just three total shots, one of which was on cage, and also had three corners compared to East Stroudsburg's five. ESU outshot KU 12-3 overall and 8-1 on cage.

Senior goalie
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) did her best to keep her team in the game. She finished with seven saves.
Â
Kutztown will host Slippery Rock this Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. It will be senior day for KU, which will honor
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional),
Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and
Kasey Elliott (Dover, Pa./Red Land).
