EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) reached a career milestone Friday night, surpassing 2,000 digs as the Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 in a PSAC Eastern Division match at East Stroudsburg.
Wilson became the second Golden Bear ever to achieve the feat, joining current record-holder Nicole Biuso, who registered 2,265 digs with the Maroon and Gold between 2004-07. With 13 digs on the night, Wilson, a Bethlehem, Pa., native, now has 2,006 for her career.
The Warriors (10-9, 6-2 PSAC East) held off KU in the opening set, 25-20, and never looked back. ESU won the second 25-18 and completed the sweep 25-13 in the third. Kutztown's record dropped to 7-13 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
The two teams were all square at 19 in the first set, before the Warriors would go on to score six of the last seven points to claim the set and dictate the tone for the remainder of the match.
Kutztown's offense was led by junior
Lauren Jackson (Stafford, Va./Mountain View), who had a team-high seven kills.
Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) matched Wilson with 13 digs and
Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) added two solo blocks.
The Golden Bears could not fend off the East Stroudsburg attack, paced by Kaitlin Buchhauser and Kenzie Guimont. Both players finished with nine kills, while Jasmine Mooney, Sydney Stone, and Claire Choloux had eight kills each.
Kutztown faces a long trip west and a quick turnaround when they take on Slippery Rock at 2 p.m. Saturday.
