FROSTBURG, Md. –
Izzy Radel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) and
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) both found the back of the cage in the third quarter and the seventh-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team overcame a one-goal deficit in the second half to defeat Lindenwood 4-2 Saturday evening in a non-conference game at Frostburg State University.
Â
The Golden Bears (8-1 overall) won their fifth consecutive game as Radel scored twice, and along with the goal by Donato,
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) tallied a fourth quarter goal to round out the scoring. Donato now has 11 goals on the year, second-most in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
Â
Radel opened up the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute on an assist by
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) to put KU ahead 1-0. The Lions (5-5) answered quickly with two goals within the next 8:38 to go out in front 2-1 and take that lead into halftime. It was Radel's third and fourth goals this season.
Â
The Maroon and Gold bounced back and took control in the second half, particularly in the third quarter when Radel tallied her second and Donato added her first of the game in a 5:34 period in the third. Dusman then scored 5:30 into the final stanza to give KU a two-goal cushion it used to finish off the win.
Â
Kutztown outshot Lindenwood 24-6 overall and 16-4 on cage, and also held a 12-6 advantage in corners.
Â
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with two saves to earn the victory in front of the cage.
Â
Kutztown gets back into PSAC competition for its next game. KU travels to Millersville to take on the Marauders on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m.
