KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University softball team will head south to play 13 games in two different states as part of its spring break trip, beginning Saturday, March 7, in North Carolina.
 
Following three weeks away from the diamond, the Golden Bears (4-5 overall) will be back in action, hitting N.C. for two games and then Florida for the remaining 11. They begin their trip with a doubleheader at Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, before continuing south to the Sunshine state on Monday, March 9, through Saturday, March 14.
 
Kutztown is coming off a 6-5 victory over fellow Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Lock Haven in its last game back on Feb. 16, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. KU went 3-2 that weekend, including wins over Goldey-Beacom and Southern Connecticut State.
 
Sophomore Kate Ostaszewski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), who is batting .419, leads the conference with 18 hits in 40 at-bats. Junior Jenna Lipowski (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area) is atop the PSAC leaderboard in both RBI (13) and homeruns (5), while classmate Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) is second in doubles (5) and tied for sixth in homeruns (2). Freshman Brittany Hubler (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) paces the KU offense with a .474 batting average.
 
In the circle, all four pitchers: Bridget Bailey (Norwood, Pa./Interboro), Amber Brugger (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy), Kelly Dulaney (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) have each recorded a win so far this season. Bailey is second in the PSAC in innings (39.2) and fifth in strikeouts (20).
 
The schedule for the next week includes Winston-Salem State (Saturday), West Liberty and Barry on Monday, two against Nova Southeastern Tuesday, Caldwell on Wednesday, Indiana (PA) and Wayne State (MI) Thursday, Lake Erie and Purdue on Friday, and then wrap up the trip with games against Southern New Hampshire and Ashland Saturday, March 14.
