Golden Bears net single-game record 17 three-pointers in win over West Chester

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team was feeling it from distance as KU connected on a program-record 17 made three-pointers in handling West Chester University 69-54 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division game Wednesday night inside Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (16-9 overall, 13-6 PSAC) knew that three is greater than two, and they used that to their advantage, attempting 37 three's, tied for second-most in a game in program history. They shot 45.9-percent (17-for-37) overall.

Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) connected on half of her three-point attempts (6-of-12) finishing with 20 points and adding five rebounds. Alexis Smith (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) (3-for-6) and Sam Mikos (Freehold, N.J./Saint Rose) (3-for-3) all made three 3-pointers and finished with 14 and nine points respectively, a new season-high for Mikos.

It didn't take long for Kutztown to show its might. The Golden Rams (8-16, 6-13) opened the game scoring the first five points, but KU ended the first quarter on a 23-9 run to lead 23-14 after one. Kutztown outscored West Chester 17-12 in the second quarter to push its lead to double-digits, leading 40-26 at halftime.

Brianna Tarabocchia (Woodcliff Lake, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) and Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) each finished with seven points and were the top-two on the glass for KU. Remolde led the team with seven, followed by six from Tarabocchia. Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) tallied four points, four rebounds and two assists, and Presley Berryhill (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) had three points and three assists. Both Zoe Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Kaylan Jackson (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) recorded two points, and Gabbi Wright (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) rounded out the KU scoring with one point.

Kutztown took complete control of the game in the third, outscoring the Golden Rams 17-9 to go up 57-35 and see out the game in the fourth.

Kutztown will be on the road for its next two games beginning on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Mansfield at 1 p.m.
