KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Gabbi Wright (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) and freshman
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) connected on consecutive three-pointers in back-to-back possessions late in the game to lead the Kutztown University women's basketball team to a 69-57 victory against Mansfield University Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division action inside Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (10-6 overall, 7-3 PSAC) have now won four straight games and have earned their 10th win of the season, the eighth straight season of double-digit victories.
Leading by just four points (61-57) with 3:28 left to play, Wright drained a three from the left corner off a pass by classmate
Karen Lapkiewicz (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) with 2:27 to go, and then on the very next offensive possession, just 1:00 later, Remolde nailed a three from the right wing after she received a pass by classmate
Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) to quickly put KU up by double-figures (67-57), and only 1:27 left on the clock.
Lapkiewicz had one of her best games in a Maroon and Gold uniform. The Southampton native finished with a career-high 22 points and added five rebounds, a season-high five assists and a career-best five steals defensively.
Three other Golden Bears finished in double-digits in scoring.
Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) ended just shy of a double-double, recording 11 points and nine rebounds. Wright and Remolde each had 10 points for Kutztown. Wright added four rebounds, three blocks and one steal, while Remolde contributed five rebounds, two steals and one block.
Kutztown led Mansfield after each of the first two quarters, and were ahead 36-28 at halftime. The Mounties (3-13, 1-9) fought back in the third quarter to cut their deficit to just three, 48-45, heading into the final quarter.

Janet Malouf and her staff drew up two clutch plays that set up open shots for Wright and Remolde to seal the game.
Whalen finished with eight points and three assists. Freshman
Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) netted five points and
Brianna Tarabocchia (Woodcliff Lake, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) finished with three points to round out the KU scoring.
Kutztown hits the road for its next game to take on West Chester University this Saturday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m.
