WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team had four players score in double-figures, and two others that were a basket away, as KU defeated West Chester University 72-62 Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division game.
The Golden Bears (11-6 overall, 8-3 PSAC) have now won five games in-a-row and remain in a first-place tie with East Stroudsburg (12-5, 8-3) atop the East standings.
Senior
Gabbi Wright (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) led the way with a game-high 18 points. She also recorded seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and
Karen Lapkiewicz (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) each tallied 12 points, while Derr brought in five rebounds and tied a career-high with five steals.
Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was the fourth Maroon and Gold player in double-figures with 10.
Brianna Tarabocchia (Woodcliff Lake, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) finished just shy of the double-digit mark, ending her day with nine points.
Zoe Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) recorded eight points, five rebounds and two assists.
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) rounded out the scoring for KU with three points.
Kutztown led for most of the game, including 24-18 after the opening quarter and 34-32 at halftime. In a low-scoring third quarter, KU outscored the Golden Rams (6-10, 4-7) 12-8. The Golden Bears then finished off the game, winning the fourth quarter 26-22.
Kutztown will remain on the road for its next game, Wednesday night, Jan. 22, at Shippensburg University at 6 p.m.
