Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team had its offense break out in a big way, totaling season-highs in goals (5) and shots (30) in winning its most comfortable game of the 2019 season, 5-1 at Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division game.
The Golden Bears (3-3 overall, 2-3 PSAC East) featured four different goal scorers and nine players that recorded multiple shots during the game.
Maggie Cecere (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) led the way with two goals, giving her four on the year after her first multi-goal game in the season-opening win at Charleston.
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico),
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and
Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) all found the back of the net once. It was the first goals of the season for both sophomores Argen and Kane.
Kutztown tallied 30 shots total, the most since its had 32 last Oct. 12. The 20 shots on goal is the most since Sept. 16, 2017.
Cecere got KU on the board early. She scored twice in a matter of 1:36 of each other. The junior forward had a header off a pass by Argen 6:05 into the game and then beat the Ship goalie with her right foot on a pass by
Kaylee Kupiec (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) at the 7:41 mark, and Kutztown was off and rolling.
In the second half, Zwiercan fired a shot from the right six of the 18-yard box and found the upper left corner of the net. Kane's shot from the left side found the back of the net on a pass by Cecere and KU went ahead by a commanding 4-0 score.
The Raiders got onto the scoreboard in the 54th minute, and then Argen capped the scoring on a rebounded shot.
Senior goalie
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) finished with two saves and earned the victory, the 35th of her career.
Alexis Saladino (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) came in and also made a save.
Kutztown will be home for its next two contests. KU hosts Bloomsburg on Wednesday night, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m., before a home game with Mansfield that Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m.
