GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Seton Hill scored 11 consecutive goals to open Saturday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game, putting the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team in too deep a hole to dig out of. The Golden Bears could not further their postseason efforts in a 16-4 setback at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.
Keagan Pontious had a first-half hat trick and Mackenzie Kilduff scored a game-high five goals as both Seton Hill players continued their pursuit of 50-goal seasons.
Kutztown (5-6 PSAC, 6-8) got on the board with 4:14 left in the first half when
Erin Vaughan Ware (Seaford, N.Y./MacArthur) netted her 20th goal of the season, unassisted.
The Griffins' (7-3, 9-6) attack remained dangerous early in the second. Olivia Caragein scored 1:27 into the half and Kilduff added three more goals for a 15-1 SHU lead.
Vaughan Ware set up a
Destanee Watkins (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) tally at 17:17.
Lauren Schmidt (Hanover, Pa./South Western) hit the 30-goal mark with 10:56 remaining and
Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) scored off a
Jordan Klebe (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) pass to close out the scoring just over two minutes later.
Seton Hill racked up 47 shots to Kutztown's 21 and was equally strong on draw controls, more than doubling up the Bears, 15-7.
KU goalie
Megan Vaughan (Prince Frederick, Md./Southern) was under siege throughout the game and responded with her second-highest save total of the season stopping 11 SHU chances.
Pontious led the home team with seven points on three goals and four assists. She also hauled in a game-high seven draw controls and forced a pair of turnovers. Katelyn Cressman had four points (two goals, two assists), Jacklyn Frank three (goal, two assists) and Caragein two goals.
The Golden Bears are on the road again Thursday for a 4 p.m. non-conference game against Shepherd. They'll close out the regular season with Senior Day versus Mercyhurst on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m.
