KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Nolan Perugini (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) were winners at first doubles, but the Kutztown University men's tennis team couldn't overcome regionally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas in a 7-0 loss at the Keystone Courts on Thursday afternoon.
The Perugini-Carl tandem improved to 4-4 on the season by outlasting Tim Fleerkamp and Luke Taplin in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5), but it would be the Golden Bears' (1-13) only match victory of the day.
STAC (12-5), ranked ninth in the East Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), blanked KU 6-0 at second and third doubles, before capturing all six singles matches.
Perugini pushed Marcel Volz to a tiebreaker in both sets at first singles, before coming up just short 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4). Carl, meanwhile, earned a 6-3 second-set victory to force a deciding super tiebreaker set against Gijs Anton Offringa at third singles before falling 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.
Kutztown hosts Bloomsburg on Senior Day this coming Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for 11 a.m., but has been moved back due to expected overnight rain Friday into Saturday.
