KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Senior
Nolan Perugini (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) earned a doubles victory with
Renato Santos (Seixal, Portugal/Fernão Mendes Pinto) in his final home match, and graduate student
Eric Gibson (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) was also honored as the Kutztown University men's tennis team closed out its home schedule with a 4-3 PSAC loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon.
For the second time this season, the Golden Bears (1-4 PSAC, 1-14) grabbed a doubles point by winning 2-of-3 to head into singles play with the lead.
Perugini, a Reading native, and Santos controlled first doubles en route to a 6-1 win over Lucas Pedrotti and Bernardo Abreu. A 6-4 triumph from
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and
Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) against the Huskies' Guille Carranza and Oliver Wiesemann broke a 1-1 tie to give KU the doubles point.
Bloomsburg (2-3, 6-6) would grind out four of the first five singles matches to secure the match, however.
Santos defeated Abreu in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 at second singles, and
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) fended off Carranza 6-4, 7-5 at third singles for the Maroon and Gold's remaining points.
Kutztown will finish the 2018-19 season with a non-conference match against West Liberty at Bloomsburg on Friday, April 26.
