KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's tennis could not slow regionally-ranked No. 6 Salem from its 10th consecutive victory, falling 6-1 to the Tigers on Monday afternoon at the Keystone Courts.
Jillian Siefert (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) earned the Golden Bears' (2-8) only point with a 6-2, 3-6, 12-10 victory against Brianna Vasquez at sixth singles. It was the freshman's first collegiate win.
KU got a strong showing from its first doubles team of
Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and
Alicia Pursell (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg), but dropped the tiebreaker 8-6 to fall 7-6 (6).
Salem (13-2), ranked sixth in the ITA's Atlantic Region, collected a 6-0 win at third doubles and 6-2 win at second to sweep heading into singles.
Prior to Siefert's win, the Tigers won the top five singles flights in straight sets.
Kutztown resumes PSAC East play tomorrow at Shippensburg. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
