HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Regionally-ranked Michigan Tech claimed a 7-0 victory over the Kutztown University women's tennis team in the Golden Bears' spring break opener at Hilton Head Island High School on Sunday.
Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and
Alicia Pursell (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) took three games off the Huskies' top doubles team of Samantha Johnson and Jessica Brown in a 6-3 defeat, while
Sarah Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) won three games in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Mirna Golac at fourth singles.
Michigan Tech (10-5), which is ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Rankings, emerged from singles with straight set wins in all six matches after picking up the doubles point with a sweep.
Kutztown fell to 1-3 on the season, but will get its next chance at victory on Monday at 1:30 p.m. against Quincy at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center.
