KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Eighth-ranked Kutztown University put an exclamation point on its home schedule with a 47-0 shutout of East Stroudsburg on Senior Night, Friday, at Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears racked up four pins and two tech. falls in holding an opponent scoreless for the first time since Jan. 10, 2017, in a 37-0 victory at Millersville.
No. 12
Matt Wilde (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area (Ursinus)) scored a season-high 23 points on the strength of seven takedowns to beat Nick Reto, 23-12, in the opening match at 125 lbs. The sophomore's 10th dual win of the season was also his team-leading seventh major decision.
Christopher Crane (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) evened his record with a 5:38 pin of Gerhardt Reiter at 133 to start a run of three pins in four bouts for the Maroon and Gold (13-1, 5-1 PSAC). The only non-pin during that stretch was still a dominant effort by KU, as 141-pounder
Anthony Petril (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby (Ursinus)) controlled Michael Goebel for a 20-3 second period technical fall.
With time running short in the first period of the 149-pound bout,
Jake Jones (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) stuck Pierre Liciaga.
Chad Haegele (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood), the nation's 12th-ranked grappler at 157, pinned Marquan Payne in 6:13 for his 16th win in a row and pushed Kutztown's growing lead to 27-0.
In one of the closest matches of the evening,
Connor Rogovich (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) used an escape in the final 10 seconds of the third to claim a 6-5 decision over the Warriors' (5-6, 2-5) Richard Viruet at 165.
T.C. Warner (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Bloomsburg)) and ESU's Mike Raccioppi had the most anticipated bout of the night, with Warner ranked No. 6 in Division II and Raccioppi No. 9. The Golden Bear senior held a slim 3-2 edge going to the third, but outscored Raccioppi 3-0 in the third and tacked on a point for riding time in a 7-2 decision.
Top-ranked
Jeff Reimel (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) amassed three takedowns and a pair of four-point nearfalls to produce a 17-1 tech fall at the 5:33 mark against Dillon Warner at 184.
James Meyer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) pulled out a 4-2 decision over Nick Klinoff at 197 and senior
John Barlow (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester), who head coach
Robert Fisher referred to as the ultimate teammate during his KU career, pinned Burak Ozbay at 1:21 of the first period in the heavyweight bout.
Barlow was one of seven Golden Bears honored in a pre-match ceremony along with Crane, Haegele, Meyer, Petril, Reimel and Warner.
Kutztown finishes the regular season with a PSAC dual at Shippensburg on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.
