Three-point barrage sends women’s basketball to 69-56 PSAC win over Slippery Rock

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team tied a season-high with 12 made three-pointers, half of which came in the second quarter where KU took control on its way to a 69-56 win over Slippery Rock Friday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (6-4 overall, 3-1 PSAC) have now won four games in-a-row and six of their last seven overall.

Kutztown's 12 three's ties a season-high when it also connected on a dozen in the win over Penn State Lehigh Valley on Nov. 30. KU lived by the three, as its 44 attempts were the most this year thus far.

Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) led all KU scorers with 22 points and added a season-best nine rebounds, along with three assists and one steal. Reigning PSAC East Division Athlete of the Week Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) once again stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) rounded out three Golden Bears in double-figures, recording 11 points, three rebounds and tying a season-high with three assists.

Trailing 15-10 after the opening quarter, the Maroon and Gold offense woke up in a big way in the second frame. After going 1-for-10 from long range the first 10 minutes, KU connected on 6-of-15 three-pointers in the second quarter and finished the last 4:45 on a 14-5 run to take the lead into halftime, 35-33.

Kutztown found itself ahead 50-45 heading into the final quarter when it outscored the Rock (2-8, 0-4) 19-11 in the final frame.

Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) tallied six points and five rebounds, while both Karen Lapkiewicz (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and Kaylan Jackson (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) contributed five points for the Golden Bears. Jackson also tied a season-best with two rebounds. Gabbi Wright (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) notched three points and four rebounds, while Zoe Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Presley Berryhill (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) each had two points to round out the KU scorers.

Kutztown is back out on the court in another PSAC contest when it hosts Edinboro tomorrow, Saturday, at 5:30 p.m. from Keystone Arena.
