LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Junior
Andrew Sulon (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) of the Kutztown University men's cross country team had a career-best finish at the 10k NCAA Atlantic Regionals Saturday afternoon at Lock Haven University as KU placed 14th overall as a team.
Sulon crossed the finish line at 26th, just missing out on earning All-Region status by one spot, as
those finishing among the top-25 in each race will be considered All-Region performers. He had a personal-best time of 32:38.
The Golden Bears' lineup was without one of their better runners in sophomore
Evan Adanatzian (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), who was dealing with a sickness which forced him to miss the meet. Adanatzian finished second overall at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships and had a great shot at Nationals this year.
In their first Regional meet, freshmen
Ryan Smith (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) and
Matt Salazar (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) and senior
AJ Kilpatrick (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) all finished within the first 77 of the field of 134 total runners. Sophomore
Giordanovenchy Cerisier (North Wales, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), also in his first Regional race, finished 96th and senior
Nate Burkhart (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) ended 99th at 35:10.1. Junior
Derek Barney (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) rounded out the KU lineup in a time of 37:39.
Kutztown finished its 2019 season and will graduate two seniors in Kilpatrick and Burkhart.
