KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore midfielder
Alisea Munshower (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) scored twice in the last 3:44 of the game to bring the Kutztown University women's soccer team back from down 1-0 to defeat West Chester University 2-1 Saturday afternoon in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division season-finale for KU at Keystone Field.
The Golden Bears (11-7 overall, 9-7 PSAC East) were able to send off their eight seniors with a victory. The senior class of
Schyler Ackerman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield),
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional),
Courtney Browning (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill),
Chelsea Fadio (Audubon, N.J./Audubon),
Kaylee Kupiec (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic),
Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn),
Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) combined to win 61 total games in their careers, tied for second-most all-time in program history, and qualified for PSAC and NCAA Atlantic Region Tournaments three years.
After a scoreless first half that saw both teams have quality chances on goal, the Golden Rams (11-4-2, 10-4-2) broke through in the 73rd-minute on a pass down field by Kaleigh Harmon in stride to Katie Crouthamel, who neatly one-touched it to the far right corner of the low post for the game's opening goal.
With time on the season dwindling, Munshower gave the Maroon and Gold life with just under four minutes to go. She received a pass from Zwiercan and placed a shot far post that beat West Chester goalie Brooke Myers to even up the score. Munshower then was in the right place at the right time after a scramble in front of goal. With the ball loose inside the six-yard box, the sophomore drilled it into the back of the net as her teammates jumped on top of her in celebration.
Zwiercan tallied her fourth assist on the season and finished with 14 goals. She ended her career as the program record holder for career points (110) and career goals (44).
Bracken ended the day with four saves to earn her 10th win this season. She holds program records for career wins (42) and shutouts (26).
West Chester outshot Kutztown 13-9 overall, but KU held the edge in shots on goal at 6-5.
Kutztown finished off its 2019 season with positive momentum, winning three straight games.
