KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The third-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team will take to the turf at Andre Reed Stadium hosting its first postseason since 2015 and just its second all-time when it hosts No. 10 Mansfield University Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinal round game.
Â
General admission tickets are being sold for $10 with non-KU students at $5. There is free admission for any Kutztown or PSAC student that shows a valid student ID. Stadium gates open at 5 p.m. No pets are allowed inside the stadium.
Â
The Golden Bears (12-5 overall) defeated IUP 2-0 last Saturday in their regular season finale to finish 7-3 in PSAC play and earn the right to play in front of their home crowd for the first time since they hosted West Chester in a PSAC quarterfinal round game in 2015, the first home playoff game in program history.
Â
Kutztown's lone PSAC playoff victory came in 1988 when it defeated Millersville 1-0. KU qualified for the PSAC Tournament last season, but fell to the Marauders 2-0 in the quarterfinals at Millersville.
Â
The Maroon and Gold and Mountaineers (12-6) met once this season, back on Oct. 23, a 3-1 KU win at Andre Reed Stadium. Kutztown trailed 1-0 in the fourth quarter, but rallied for three goals in the final 15-minute frame, two from junior
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) and one from senior
Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) to complete the comeback.
Â
Fuhrman, a two-time First Team All-American, ranks third in the PSAC with eight assists on the year. Classmate and fellow two-time All-American
Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) is tied for seventh with 10 goals, leading the team. Senior captain
Molly Bobjak (New Castle, Del./Padua Academy) is also tied for seventh in assists with six. Senior goalie
Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) ranks third with an .821 save percentage and also has four shutouts, tied for fifth. Hanshaw and the KU defense, consisting of
Hadley Wiktor (Danville, Pa./Danville),
Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan),
Hannah Shirk (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) and
Juliana Borisow (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) have allowed just three goals in their last five games. Sophomore
Izzy Radel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) has scored a goal in two of her last three games, and classmate
Rachel Dusman's (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) three game-winning goals is sixth-best in the league.
Â
Mansfield is led by leading scorer Dana Evans, who's 19 goals is fourth-most in the PSAC. Larissa Motts has nine goals and is tied for ninth in the conference in scoring. Mounties' goalie Brittany Ryan has 12 wins and an .800 save percentage, good for fifth in the PSAC.
Â
The winner will play at No. 1 seed and top-ranked West Chester in a semifinal round game Friday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.
