LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior defender
Kaylee Kupiec (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) scored her first goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winner, as the Kutztown University women's soccer team recorded three unanswered goals to come from behind to defeat Lock Haven University 3-1 Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division action.
The Golden Bears (5-4 overall, 4-4 PSAC East) have now won two games in-a-row for the first time this year and improved their road record to 4-1 in 2019.
Kupiec's first goal since the 2017 season was the middle of three straight that KU tallied to answer an early Bald Eagles (1-5-2, 1-5-1) in the first half.
Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and
Maggie Cecere (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) were the other goal scorers for the Maroon and Gold, who outshot Lock Haven 20-9 overall and 10-6 on goal.
Following a rebounded effort by Golden Eagles' Marley Sprenkel in the 11th minute, Kane received a through-ball from
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) that she fired fire post past the keeper to tie the score 1-1 just 1:29 after Lock Haven's opening goal. It is the third goal in four games for Kane. Kupiec then collected a loose ball just outside of the 18-yard box and also slotted it in the far corner of the net to put KU ahead for good in the 30th minute.
Cecere's team-leading sixth goal came in the second half when she beat her defender and had a one-on-one opportunity with the Lock Haven goalie and finished past her. Cecere is tied for fourth in the PSAC in goals scored.
Senior goalie
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) earned the victory in net and finished with five saves, tying a season-high.
Sarah Reidy (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) (3) and
Brittany Arentz (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) (2) each fired multiple shots in the game.
Kutztown will play at eighth-ranked West Chester this Saturday, Oct. 12, at 12 p.m.
