No. 5 field hockey blanks Seton Hill, 6-0, on Senior Day

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Six different players scored for fifth-ranked Kutztown, including seniors Rose Moore (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin), as the Golden Bears celebrated Senior Day with a 6-0 shutout over Seton Hill on Saturday at Andre Reed Stadium.

It took just 56 seconds for Kutztown to put its first step forward to 3-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) scored from down low to put the Bears in front.

Despite holding a 16-0 advantage in shots, the Maroon and Gold (8-2, 3-0 PSAC) could not break through with another goal before the half. Seton Hill goalie Emma Jorgensen, under fire all day, made nine of her 14 saves through the first two quarters. Defender Molly Carbone added a second-quarter defensive save.

The flood gates would open in the third, however, as the Golden Bears found the back of the cage three times in the span of 6:11. Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) ripped a shot past Jorgensen for her fifth goal of the season at 31:54. Wozniak followed with a backhander, top shelf, at 34:12, and Molly Bobjak (New Castle, Del./Padua Academy) found Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York) for a goal at 38:05 that made it 4-0.

Freshman Abby Thorius (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) scored 21 seconds into the fourth quarter and senior Rose Moore (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) pushed a pass from Dusman in right at the goal line to cap the scoring.

Kutztown outshot the Griffins (1-6, 0-2) 28-2 and put 21 shots on goal. The Golden Bears also attempted 15 corners to Seton Hill's six.

Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made her first start of the season in the cage for KU and stopped two shots for her second career shutout.

Prior to the game, the team honored seniors Bobjak, Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), Hanshaw, Gabby Hess (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal), Moore, Hannah Shirk (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg), Hadley Wiktor (Danville, Pa./Danville) and Wozniak.

Kutztown will host nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
