BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's cross country team finished fifth out of 35 teams Saturday afternoon at the Paul Short Invitational 8k on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem. It is the best team finish for KU since it won the event in 2011.
The Paul Short Run is the largest intercollegiate cross country meet in the nation and is named in honor of the late Paul Short who was Lehigh's Business Manager of Athletics and a cross country enthusiast.
Evan Adanatzian (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) paced the KU lineup, placing 12th at 25:55.
AJ Kilpatrick (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) was also in the top-20 overall out of 286 runners, crossing the line in 22nd with a time of 26:05.9.
Ryan Smith (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield),
Andrew Sulon (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and
Derek Barney (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) all claimed positions in-between 31-and-36, with Smith in 31st at 26:18.8, Sulon in 33rd at 26:20.6 and Barney 36th at 26:23.1.
Matt Salazar (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) was the lone other runner to finish in the top-100 with a 62nd-place finish in 26:47.5.
Giordanovenchy Cerisier (North Wales, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and
Ryan Riley (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) rounded out the Kutztown lineup, each inside the top-half of the field.
Kutztown will have one more meet this season before it heads to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in Bloomsburg on Friday, Oct. 25.
