KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior forward
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) recorded a hat trick and set a new program-record for career points in leading the Kutztown University women's soccer team defeated Shippensburg University 4-0 Saturday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Keystone Field.
Zwiercan nearly doubled her season output in goals (8) with three, and in doing so tallied her 95th career point, passing Kirsten Hansen, who finished her career with 94 in 1989. She second all-time in career goals at KU, and her eight goals this season ranks tied for fifth in the PSAC.
The Golden Bears (8-6 overall, 6-6 PSAC) have now won two in-a-row overall and three consecutive games on the new Keystone Field turf.
"We always want to win at home," said Zwiercan. "It's a goal of ours to play well in front of our home fans. We knew tonight was going to be a tough game but to be able to come away with another win here feels great."
Zwiercan was instrumental in the outcome as she tallied a game-high seven shots, four on goal, including her three goals. Her goals came in the 3rd, 24th and 46th minutes to put the game in complete control from the outset. Sophomore
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) added her second goal of the year for the cherry on top of a 4-0 victory.
Senior goalie
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) finished with four saves and earned the shutout win, her fourth shutout of the year and program-record 26th of her career.
Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) had two assists on Zwiercan goals, and
Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) contributed an assist on Zwiercan's opening goal.
Kutztown has its next two games on the road against PSAC competition. KU takes on Bloomsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. in its next game.
