PSAC Game Notes

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 17th-ranked and undefeated Kutztown University football team welcomes Shippensburg University to town Saturday, Oct. 26, for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division matchup on homecoming weekend at KU. Kickoff from Andre Reed Stadium is set for 2:05 p.m.

The Golden Bears (7-0 overall, 4-0 PSAC East) are looking to begin a season 8-0 for just the second time in program history, the first since they won their first nine games to open up the 2010 campaign, a year they went to the NCAA Tournament.

Kutztown enters off an impressive 35-12 win over Lock Haven last Saturday. KU featured a season-high four different players rush for touchdowns and the defensive united forced three turnovers as KU kept its undefeated record intact. The Red Raiders (2-5, 2-2) is coming off a 27-0 shutout win over Millersville last weekend on their homecoming.

The Maroon and Gold continue to rank near the top of the PSAC in scoring offense and defense overall. Kutztown's high-scoring offense is putting up points at a 36.4 per game clip, fourth in the conference. The defensive unit is third, allowing just 16.9 ppg. On the other hand, Shippensburg ranks in the bottom-half of the league in both categories, 11th offensively at 23.1 ppg and 13th defensively allowing 33.7 ppg.

Last Saturday was the fifth time in seven games this season Kutztown has reached at least 35 points. KU also improved to 19-0 under head coach
Jim Clements when allowing 14 points or less and has not allowed more than 16 points in five-of-seven games.

With a nationally-ranked showdown at West Chester next weekend looming, Kutztown would like to continue its momentum into that important game.
