Arentz scores first career goal as Kutztown Women’s Soccer defeats Holy Family 2-1 Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore forward Brittany Arentz (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) of the Kutztown University women's soccer team broke through for her first collegiate goal, and senior Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) broke a 1-1 deadlock with her fifth goal of the season and 35th in her career as KU took down Holy Family 2-1 in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon in Philadelphia.

The Golden Bears (7-6 overall) played their final non-conference game before wrapping up the regular season with five games against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponents.

Arentz found the back of the net for the first time in the 51st minute when her shot from the right side of the goal beat the Tigers goalie to open up scoring in the game. After a turnover inside the 18-yard box, Zwiercan beat her defender and then the goalie for the game-winner in the 82nd minute. The goal now moves Zwiercan into second all-time in program history in career goals with 35.

Juniors Anna Hull (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Maggie Cecere (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) assisted on the pair of KU goals with the former passing to Arentz and the latter to Zwiercan.

Senior goalie Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) finished with two saves and earned the victory, the program-leading 38th of her career.

Kutztown was the aggressor in scoring chances Tuesday, outshooting Holy Family 23-7 and 14-3 on goal. KU also held a 14-5 advantage in corner kicks. Zwiercan led the way with a game-high six shots, followed by Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) with four.

The Tigers tied the game in the 71st minute when Jacqueline Ziegler ran onto a through ball and fired home a shot from 15 yards out.

Kutztown will host Shippensburg on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. at Keystone Field during homecoming weekend.
