No. 5 Golden Bears come from two down, beat Bloomsburg on Dusman's OT goal

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) scored 30 seconds into overtime as the fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team escaped Bloomsburg's upset bid, 3-2, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road game Wednesday afternoon.

Bloomsburg built a 2-0 lead less than 21 minutes into the contest on a penalty stroke goal from Callie Edwards at 5:35 and another by Foto Tsioles at 20:52.

Dusman kept Kutztown (7-2, 2-0 PSAC) from going to the half down multiple goals when she scored off a pass from Molly Bobjak (New Castle, Del./Padua Academy) with 24 seconds remaining in the second quarter. The goal came following two consecutive corners for KU.

The Maroon and Gold really turned up the pressure after falling behind. Over the final three quarters and overtime, KU outshot the Huskies (2-6, 0-2) 15-1. Kutztown finished with a 20-5 advantage and took 11 corners to Bloom's zero.

Bloomsburg goalie Abby Shaffer made three third-quarter saves to maintain her team's one-goal lead, but the Bears would break through five minutes into the fourth. Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) intercepted a clearing attempt from the Huskies and slapped a shot by Shaffer for her team-leading eighth goal of the year. Wozniak now has 45 goals and 98 points in her career.

Kutztown continued to bring pressure late in regulation, firing three shots after Wozniak's equalizer.

The Golden Bears immediately took possession in overtime and it didn't take long for Dusman to end it. Mackenzie Fuhrman's (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) initial shot was stopped by Shaffer, but Dusman was there to flip the rebound over the BU goalie and in.

Dusman's knack for the dramatic was on display again with her second overtime winning goal this season. The sophomore from Chambersburg also beat then top-ranked Shippensburg in double overtime on Sept. 14.

Dusman took a game-high eight shots, while Wozniak had four and Fuhrman three.

Shaffer was Bloomsburg's rock, stopping nine shots. Tesa Hoffman added a defensive save. Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) had a pair of saves and Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) a defensive save for KU.

Kutztown completed a four-game stint away from home with a 3-1 record. The Bears return home, Saturday, for the first time since Sept. 14, and will host Senior Day prior to their game against Seton Hill. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
