KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown women's tennis broke into the win column, Friday, with a 5-2 non-conference victory over Davis & Elkins at the Keystone Courts.
Amanda Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) was a winner in both singles and doubles play, while
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic) and
Elyssa Tomczyk (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) also registered wins in singles matches against the shorthanded Senators (3-1).
The Golden Bears' No. 1 doubles team of
Alicia Pursell (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) and Grebosky cruised to a 6-1 win over Laura Vegas and Rosalie Naber. Combined with a default win at No. 3, KU secured the doubles point.
Kutztown (1-3) also got a default victory at sixth singles due to Davis & Elkins' incomplete lineup. That put the hosts two points away from clinching. It wouldn't take long as Grebosky beat Naber at second singles 6-1, 6-4 and Maher disposed of Cara Long in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles.
Tomczyk added a 6-4, 6-0 win over Elysia Cain at fifth singles.
Kutztown closes its fall schedule with a road match at Saint Thomas Aquinas next Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 2:30 p.m.
