EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer fought and battled evenly with East Stroudsburg University for 78 minutes, but a goal by ESU in the 79th was all the scoring in this one as KU fell 1-0 Friday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division game at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Golden Bears (6-6 overall, 5-6 PSAC East) and Warriors (9-3, 8-3) were pretty much even in regards to most of the statistical categories and even the final score. ESU outshot KU 17-15 (9-7 on goal), the teams were tied 3-3 in corner kicks, and Kutztown had one more save on the night than East Stroudsburg (8-7).
The eight saves by senior goalie
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) is a season-high and the most since she also stopped eight shots in a 2-0 win against Edinboro on Sept. 22, 2018.
East Stroudsburg managed to find the back of the net off a low-driving, left-footed shot into the lower left corner of the net in the 78th-minute, which proved to be the winner.
Senior forward
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) led all players with six shots, four of which were on goal, but could not beat Warriors goalie Mauri Jackson, who finished with seven saves.
Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford),
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and
Ally Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) each had two shots for the Maroon and Gold.
Kutztown will remain on the road for its final non-conference game of the regular season when it faces Holy Family next Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 3:30 p.m.
