Three's Company: Men's Basketball Collects Third Straight Win, Taking Care of Business on Both Ends of the Court

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Everything seemed to go right for the Kutztown University men's basketball team as 10 different players etched their names into the scorebook and helped lead KU to success on both ends of the floor in defeating Edinboro University 87-48 Wednesday night at Keystone Arena in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross-division game.

It is the third straight win for the Golden Bears (10-6 overall, 4-4 PSAC), the longest win streak of the season. They also allowed their fewest points since giving up just 48 on Nov. 11, 2016 against the University of the Sciences, in stymying the Fighting Scots (4-8, 1-6) to just 48 points on 23.9-percent (17-for-71) shooting from the floor. They also forced 40 turnovers and outrebounded them 61-40 over the course of 40 minutes.

The 48 total points is the fewest given up in a game since Jan. 04, 2015, when KU's defense held Mercyhurst to 43.

10 different Kutztown players scored and four reached double-figures, led by redshirt-senior Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington), who finished with a game-high 20 points. He was one rebound and three assists shy of his first-ever triple-double, recording nine rebounds and seven assists to go along with two blocks and a steal. He was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and leads the PSAC at 91.2-percent on the season.

The big man of the night went to freshman Akello Mosby (Philadelphia, Pa./Carver). Mosby, who played in a season-high 23 minutes, tallied his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, adding three steals, all season-highs. It was a coming-out party of sorts for the six-foot, eight-inch center as he found himself in the paint creating success on both ends of the floor and causing havoc for a taller Edinboro side.

Classmate Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn) also had himself a night. The freshman guard totaled a season-high of 12 points in just seven minutes of action. He was 3-of-4 from the floor including 2-for-3 from long distance and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Kiyon Hardy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Shipley School), a game after notching his career-high of 16 points at Bloomsburg, scored the second-highest of his career, finishing with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists. Classmate Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) had eight points, 11 rebounds and three assists, as well as a pair of highlight-reel dunks.

Kutztown never trailed in this one.

After a 16-13 score at the 11:25 mark of the first half, KU went on a 9-0 run to seize control and led by at least eight points the rest of the way.

It was 51-36 in favor of the Maroon and Gold with 14:35 remaining before they wrapped it up via a 15-0 spurt over the next 2:41.

Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) recorded six points and six assists and Facundo Arens (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Bahia Blanca) and freshman Austin Laughlin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) each added five points for KU. Arens also chipped in three rebounds and tied a season-high with two steals.

Josh Townsend (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) contributed four points and nine rebounds and freshman Da'Quan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) added two points and four rebounds to round out the scoring.

All 13 Golden Bears saw action.

Senior captain David Johnson (Dunellen, N.J./Dunellen) had two rebounds, freshman Dylan Elliott (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) added one rebound and one assist, and classmate KyAire Sumpter (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) added to the party that contributed in the win.

Kutztown will hit the road for a tough PSAC East Division showdown at Shippensburg University this Saturday, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m.
