Late pin lifts No. 16 wrestling to 18-17 victory at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. -- For the second day in a row, Kutztown University's upper weights delivered.

The 16th-ranked Golden Bears overcame an 11-point deficit with wins in four of the last five bouts, capped off by Andrew Dunn Jr.'s (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (Virginia Tech)) 46-second pin in the heavyweight match, to shock Gannon, 18-17, Saturday afternoon at the Hammermill Center in Erie.

Matt Wilde (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area (Ursinus)) improved to 11-5 on the season with an impressive 6-3 decision over Jacob Dunlop, the nation's 11th-ranked wrestler at 125 lbs, but the host Golden Knights (4-3, 3-1 PSAC) surged to a 14-3 lead by the end of the 157 match after major decisions from Nick Young (141) and Evan Fisler (157).

Kutztown (11-1, 3-1) slowly climbed back into the match, though bonus points were tough to come by.

Connor Rogovich (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) became the seventh Golden Bear to register double-digit wins this season with a 7-0 decision over Connor Day at 165. Following another shutout decision from T.C. Warner (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Bloomsburg)), 3-0, over Joel Leise at 174, top-ranked Jeff Reimel (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) joined Rogovich with his 10th win, 5-0, against Anthony Williamson.

Gannon was hit with a one-point team penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct at the conclusion of Reimel's 184-pound victory, and it would come back to haunt them.

The Golden Knights' Freddie Nixon picked up an 11-3 major decision at 197 to increase the hosts lead to 17-12.

Needing a pin for the team victory, KU had the right man stepping onto the mat. Nationally-ranked No. 7 Dunn Jr. got a quick takedown of Keith Swartley and secured his team-leading ninth pin of the year just 46 seconds.

Kutztown, which extended its winning streak to 11 matches after this weekend's Erie sweep, gets a bit of recovery time before traveling to Millersville for a PSAC dual on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m.
