EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University volleyball team dropped its match with the Edinboro University Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets.
The Golden Bears started off the day well, totaling 13 kills and hitting .242 in set one, despite suffering a 25-17 setback. However, as the match progressed, Kutztown couldn't keep up with an efficient Edinboro offense in its final tilt of the weekend. EU notched 25 kills in the final two frames while the Maroon and Gold only totaled 17 as the Fighting Scots won sets two and three, 25-17 and 25-16, respectively.
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) had nine kills, hitting .200 and leading KU with 9.5 total points.
Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) totaled eight kills and
Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) posted five. At the net, the freshman duo of
Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) and
Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) combined for six blocks.
Amanda Meck's (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) 13 assists led the team with
Sarah Williams (Pikesville, Md./Home-School) adding 10 to make up KU's setting combination.
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) racked up 12 digs on the backline with Williams posting a season-high eight.
Edinboro hit .278 compared to KU's .083, making just 13 attack errors. Another big factor in the match was the Fighting Scots' serving success as they picked up nine service aces in three sets.
KU will return home and enjoy a three-match home stand beginning next weekend, as it will face off with Shippensburg and Pitt-Johnstown on Sept. 28-29. Kutztown then takes on East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
All three matches will have live stats and video available via www.kubears.com and KU's StretchInternet portal. Kutztown's school television network 'KUTV' will be simulcasting the ESU match.
