Kutztown Downed by Shippensburg in PSAC Play

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell in three sets to the Shippensburg University Raiders in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Friday night inside of Keystone Arena.

KU challenged the Raiders, whom came into this tilt riding a 13-match win streak, holding early leads in each set. Shippensburg, however, showed its offensive firepower as each frame progressed, totaling 45 combined kills in three sets on its way to a straight-set victory. The Maroon and Gold posted double-digit kills in set two, but had trouble keeping up with a Raider offense which hammered 14+ kills in all three frames.

Kutztown was led by Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), who finished with 10 kills to pace the Maroon and Gold attack. Fellow outside hitter Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) totaled six kills in support and freshman Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) added three.

Abbey James (York, Pa./West York Area), in her first game back from injury, facilitated the offensive effort to the tune of 16 assists and also posted six digs in the match. On the back line, Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) collected a team-high 16 digs and Moyer picked up 10.

Niki Carpenter (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area), Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) each had two or more blocks as the Golden Bears were tested plenty by a strong Raider attack.

Shippensburg's multi-faceted offense was on full display, getting 9+ kills from four different players.

KU gets back on the hardwood tomorrow, Sept. 29, taking on Pitt-Johnstown for Family Day at 1 p.m.
