KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 14th-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team will wrap up its season-long three-game home stand Saturday, Sept. 22, when it hosts Edinboro University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game at noon at Keystone Field.
Live stats and video for the game will be available via the links above with the broadcast set to air on Service Electric Channel 24, Channel 524 (HD), Hometown Utilicom Channel 191 in Kutztown and eastern Berks County, Service Electric Channel 266, Channel 765 (HD) in the Lehigh Valley and online at www.KUBears.com.
The Golden Bears (6-1 overall, 4-1 PSAC) have won five straight games including two one-goal games last week. KU defeated Millersville 2-1 on Sept. 12 behind goals by juniors
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) and
Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) and a career-high 11 saves from junior goalie
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional), and then took down California (PA) 1-0 three days later on a goal by freshman
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East).
Zwiercan leads the team with four goals and nine points, adding an assist to her total. Her pass to Argen set up the game's only goal in the game with the Vulcans. She is one of just three KU players to start every game this season, joining Mohr and
Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn).
Bracken is at the backend of a Kutztown defense that has allowed just two goals in seven games, the least amount to start a season since the 2003 season when KU allowed just two goals through the first nine. Bracken is second in the PSAC in goals against average (.331) and save percentage (.939) and is third in shutouts (3). She ranks second all-time in program history with 15 shutouts and 25 career wins.
The Kutztown offense puts plenty of pressure on opposing defenses. It ranks fourth in the conference in shots (113) and leads the PSAC with 44 corner kicks.
The Fighting Scots (2-5, 1-5) have lost two in a row and five of their last six games, with the lone victory in that span a 2-1 win over KU's last opponent California. Last Saturday Edinboro fell to Millersville 2-1 and then lost to Slippery Rock on Tuesday, Sept. 18. EU has given up 13 goals on the year, tied for the second worst in the PSAC.
Kutztown looks for its sixth consecutive victory Saturday before a nationally-ranked showdown with No. 5 West Chester on the road Wednesday, Sept. 26.
