KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Fresh off its victory over No. 5 Bloomsburg, the Kutztown University field hockey team will face off with the Seton Hill University Griffins on Saturday at 11 a.m. inside of Andre Reed Stadium. KU Field Hockey will be hosting its Youth Camper Day in conjunction with the game.
The Youth Camper Day promotion will feature field hockey-specific giveaways pre-game, which include a signed stick from former USA National Team member Amanda DiNunzio. After the match, all youth in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in a postgame clinic and meet and greet with the KU Field Hockey Team.
Kutztown notched its biggest victory thus far in its matchup at Bloomsburg on Wednesday evening, taking down the nationally-ranked Huskies on the road.
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) and
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) both found the net in the opening half to put the Maroon and Gold ahead 2-0 at the break. The KU defense surrendered a late goal in the 63rd minute, but was then able to hold off BU for the final seven minutes to come away with the 2-1 win.
For the game, Kutztown outshot Bloomsburg, 9-4, and held a 10-3 advantage in corners. Freshman keeper
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) picked up the win.
KU (4-1), riding a three-game win streak, has now matched its best five game start in head coach
Marci Scheuing's tenure and sits tied-first in the current Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings.
Offensively, the Golden Bears have scored in all five games this season and are holding their opponents to just .80 goals per game, second in the PSAC.
Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) has been outstanding as the center piece in the attack in her junior season, totaling six goals and one assist. The Plains-native has a six-game point streak and her 13 combined points currently rank first across all of Division-II. Dusman has also been a bright spot early in her freshman campaign, tied for second on the team with seven points, scoring two goals and adding three assists.
On the defensive end,
Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) has continued her strong play in her central midfield role, tied with Dusman with 12 points. In net, Dotterweich has shown little signs of inexperience as a freshman, allowing just three goals while posting a 4-1 record and .77 goals against average.
It its matchup with the Griffins, KU will look to repeat its result from last season when it claimed a 3-0 victory over SHU at home on Sept. 23. Wozniak scored two goals before half and
Trinity Ponton (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) added a second-half tally to secure the three-goal win. In the game, Kutztown outshot Seton Hill 23-9, enjoying possession in the Griffin end for most of the afternoon.
In search of its first victory in 2018, Seton Hill (0-3) will have its sights set on spoiling the Maroon and Gold's afternoon. This will be a tall task, however, for the Griffins who have been outscored 16-1 in their first three games. If KU can stay 'clicking' on the offensive side of the field, its high-powered attack will be too much for a struggling Seton Hill side to handle.
