Day One Results
LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team returned to action after a three-week break, and it never lost a step. KU won all four of its matches, finishing 4-0 on day one of the Hawk Flight Invite Friday, hosted by Monmouth University.
Kutztown opened the tournament with an 889-777 victory against Roberts Wesleyan in its first match of the day. It was match number two, however, that highlighted day one for KU.
The Maroon and Gold took down No. 6 Delaware State 876-865, the highest ranked win of the season for KU, and its second win against a top-10 team this season. KU topped No. 9 Sacred Heart in the UMES Hawk Classic back on Nov. 17. It is also the highest ranked win since KU defeated then No. 3 Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 31, 2015.
Kutztown dispatched of Belmont Abbey 874-745 in its next match, and after a bye, hung on to beat Youngstown State 808-801, as it outscored the Penguins 201-195 in the fifth baker game of the match.
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) led the team with an 18.6 frame average, followed by
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) with 16.79 and
Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) at 16.70.
The Golden Bears (63-37) have topped their overall wins from last season (55) with still two more days left of the Hawk Invite this weekend.
Kutztown is in 10th place out of 17 teams with 4,247 total baker points, and is one of just five unbeaten teams after opening day. It has a 169.9 average per game through the four games.
Day two of the Hawk Flight Invite begins tomorrow, Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. with a match against Felician.
