Lee Nets 50 in Defeat at Pitt-Johnstown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Redshirt-senior Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) set a new school record for points in a game as he hit the half-century mark, dropping 50 points Saturday afternoon in a Kutztown University men's basketball 109-97 setback at Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

It is a career-high for the Willow Grove native, who topped his previous high mark of 41 earlier this season in the win over No. 2 West Liberty. He connected on five three-pointers and was 15-of-16 from the free-throw line.

Lee entered the game leading the PSAC in scoring at 26.0 points per game, and that number is now at 28.7 ppg, a whole 7.2 ppg more than the next closest.

The Golden Bears (5-4 overall, 1-2 PSAC) and Mountain Cats (6-3, 2-1) came in as the top-two teams in the conference in offensive production, and they did not disappoint.

KU opened-up a 9-0 lead to start on Josh Townsend's (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) layup and free-throw just over one minute into the game. After UPJ narrowed its deficit to just four at 15-11, Lee and Facundo Arens (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Bahia Blanca) each connected from long distance to cap a 13-4 run that pushed the lead out to 28-15 midway through the first half.

But the Mountain Cats came right back to outscore Kutztown, 22-5, over the course of the next seven minutes and held a 37-33 advantage with 2:44 remaining in the first half. UPJ would hold a 43-39 lead going into halftime.

The Maroon and Gold once again opened up a half hot to start. Lee and Arens combined for three 3-pointers to rebuild their advantage to 51-43 at the 17:11 mark.

But from that point on, UPJ free-throws were at a premium, and pushed the Mountain Cats over the top. They shot 33 from the charity stripe in the second half alone, and hit 28 of them.

Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) tallied 12 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing out on his fifth double-double this season.

Arens netted eight points, and Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) and Kiyon Hardy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Shipley School) each totaled seven points. Hicks added five assists and Hardy had eight rebounds, one shy of his career-high.

Townsend had six points and 10 rebounds and freshmen Akello Mosby (Philadelphia, Pa./Carver) and Austin Laughlin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) rounded out the KU scoring contributing four and three points respectively. Mosby's four points is a new season-high.

Kutztown has a week off before its next game, a non-conference tilt with Wilmington on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
