KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team will look to flip the script against rival West Chester University tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 29, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division action at 3 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (7-5 overall, 2-3 PSAC) were on the wrong end of things in both meetings with the Golden Rams (7-5, 3-2) last season, but were winners of seven straight dating back to the 2014-15 season. They will look to continue a new win streak against West Chester beginning Saturday in the East Division opener for both teams. It will also be the first game in 10 days for both squads.
KU split a two-day, two-game PSAC West Division swing last week in their final games before the holiday break. Kutztown suffered a setback at Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Dec. 18, before bouncing back a little over 24 hours later in dramatic fashion, using a game-winning three-pointer by
Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) at the buzzer to defeat Gannon. It had also taken down Wilmington in non-conference action on the Saturday before.
The Kutztown offense ranks second in the PSAC in scoring at 85.3 points per game (ppg). KU is shooting 50.7-percent from the floor, second in the PSAC, and is fourth in three-point percentage at 37.5-percent.
The Maroon and Gold offense has been led all season by Lee. The redshirt-senior has scored in double-digits the last 41 games and is second in Division II at 28.2 ppg. He is seventh in the PSAC in three-point percentage (42.6) and third in free-throw percentage (89.7).
Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) has five double-doubles this season. He ranks first in the PSAC with 10.3 rebounds per game and is fourth in field-goal percentage (59.0).
Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) has started 11-of-12 games and is third on KU in scoring at 9.6 ppg. His 3.7 assists per game ranks 11th in the PSAC.
Josh Townsend (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) is averaging 7.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg, and
Facundo Arens (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Bahia Blanca) is scoring at a 6.8 ppg clip, with both players appearing in all 12 games.
Kiyon Hardy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Shipley School) is averaging career-highs in ppg (7.4), rpg (4.6) and apg (2.1), but has missed the last two games due to injury. Freshmen
Da'Quan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) and
Austin Laughlin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) are averaging 4.6 ppg and 3.1 ppg respectively while both playing in all 12 games this season.
West Chester ranks seventh in the conference in scoring at 81.3 ppg and fifth in total defense, allowing 69.5 ppg.
Kutztown is 4-1 at Keystone Arena this season and has lost just five games in the last four seasons, as it looks to defend the den.
