EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's cross country team finished in fourth place Saturday morning at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship meet at Edinboro University. It is the best finish for the program since the 2002 season when it also placed fourth.
The Golden Bears featured six runners that crossed the line inside the top-50 overall in a field of 127 runners. They were led by sophomore
Derek Barney (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) and redshirt-senior
Steve Maine (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional), who finished 23rd and 25th respectively, each earning All-PSAC Second Team honors.
Barney had a time of 28:00, followed closely by Maine's 28:04. It was the first All-PSAC honor for Barney and the fourth for Maine, who earned two first-team selections and two second-team.
Xavier Gutierrez (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) finished in 33rd at a time of 28:27, followed by
Andrew Sulon (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) at 28:38 and
Chris Coates (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) at 28:43.
Nick DeGennaro (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) was the sixth KU runner to finish in the top-50 as the junior placed 50th at 29:03.
Jose Colon-Cruz (Pemberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) rounded out the KU lineup in 65th at 29:39.
Kutztown will next compete in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 17.
