MILLSBORO, Del. – The 24th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team faced five ranked teams on its opening day of competition at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, downing No. 12 Sacred Heart and No. 7 UMES to highlight its performance.
KU opened its day defeating Sacred Heart in a hard-fought match 925-921 and then closed its day with a 1023-981 win over UMES, posting two victories against top-12 opponents. Kutztown faced five ranked squads on the day and knocked over 900-plus pins in four of five matches.
Dana Henry (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) rolled an excellent day for the Golden Bears, notching a team-high 19.3 pins per frame average, bowling in all five matches.
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) was right behind Henry with a 19.25 frame average, also going the distance for KU, bowling in every match.
Spot-starter
Laura Hartley (Mt Pleasant Mills, Pa./Midd-West) also had a solid performance, posting 19.2 pins per frame in 27 frames bowled.
Madison Burkert (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) bowled an frame average of 22.0, but in just 14 frames, showing promise as just a freshman.
KU will take on St. Francis Brooklyn to begin its day tomorrow before facing off with No. 11 North Carolina A&T, No. 23 Monmouth and Coppin State, respectively.
