KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 23rd-ranked Kutztown University football team travels to take on East Stroudsburg University in its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division road game this season, Saturday, Oct. 6, at 6:05 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Sporting an undefeated record, the Golden Bears (4-0 overall, 1-0 PSAC East) garnered national praise this week, appearing in the week five American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' Poll at No. 23. It is the first time KU is nationally-ranked since September 10, 2012.
Kutztown is looking to open the season 5-0 for the first time since 2010 when it won its first nine games. Dating back to last season, KU has not lost since Oct. 28, 2017, holding a six-game win streak over the last two seasons. It is 19-4 in its last 23 games, second-best in the PSAC and only trailing IUP (20-3). KU is 1-of-2 undefeated teams in the PSAC and 1-of-20 unbeaten teams across all of Division II.
Saturday marks the 72nd meeting between the Golden Bears and the Warriors (1-4, 0-2). ESU leads the all-time series 46-24-1, but Kutztown has won seven of the last eight since 2010, and have scored 40+ points in five of the last seven meetings, including three straight.
Redshirt-senior running back
Craig Reynolds (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) is the reigning PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week, his second honor this season, after finishing with 202 all-purpose yards in the victory over Bloomsburg University last Saturday, including 112 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns on the ground. He is 6th among active DII players in career all-purpose yards (4,427), and has rushed for 29 touchdowns in his career, moving into second all-time at KU. He ranks first in the PSAC with 11 total touchdowns and fourth in rushing at 96.0 yards per game.
Through just four games, one less than every other PSAC school, the KU offense ranks first in yards per game at 503.0, fourth in scoring at 39.5 points per game and first in rushing at 194.0 ypg.
The Golden Bears defense is led by ball-hawk
Shawn Turber-Ortiz (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy), who has 40 total tackles.
Luke Snyder (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) is fresh off PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors after his career-high 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble against the Huskies.
Ahkee Cox-Cowan (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) had a season-high three pass breakups last weekend and ranks second in school history with 30 career breakups.
East Stroudsburg is led by Jaymar Anderson, who leads the PSAC and ranks 5th in DII in rushing (130.0 ypg), and also has eight touchdowns. Wide receiver Jylil Reeder ranks 3rd in PSAC and 1st in PSAC East in receiving (96.2 ypg).
It is Homecoming at East Stroudsburg, and a night game, so Kutztown will have to match the intensity that is sure to be behind the Warriors.
