Three Goals in Under Three Minutes Pushes No. 12 Women's Soccer Past Pittsburgh-Johnstown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team tallied three goals in less than three minutes midway through the first half that helped guide it to a 4-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win over the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on senior day in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Keystone Field.

Freshman Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) opened up the scoring spurt for the Golden Bears (14-3-1 overall, 12-3-1) in the 19th minute off a low cross in by Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico). Classmate Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) netted the second goal of the game in the 22nd minute after senior Alyssa Ryan (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon) sent in a cross through the six-yard box. Ryan then took matters into her own hands on her day, finding the back of the net just 0:28 later from the penalty spot to give KU a 3-0 lead.

The Mountain Cats (5-13, 4-12) would get two back unanswered before halftime to put some pressure on the Maroon and Gold.

But Argen gave her team some breathing room in the 73rd minute and made sure that Kutztown and its seniors would walk off Keystone Field winners for the last time during the 2018 regular season. It is the first multi-goal game for Argen, who now has four tallies on the year.

Ryan has now played in 80 career games, tied for fifth all-time in program history.

Senior Imani Taylor (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) got the start in net, and finished with one save, recording her 20th career victory, which ranks sixth in KU history.

Seniors Gabrielle Evans (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) and Erica Monte Carlo (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) also started for KU, and played a majority of the game.

Kutztown has clinched at least a top-three seed in next week's PSAC Tournament. With Bloomsburg and Millersville playing later in the day Saturday, the top-three seeds, or KU's next opponent, are not set as of yet. KU knows it will play at Keystone Field in the Quarterfinal Round on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
