Donato Delivers Last-Second Goal to Push No. 7 Field Hockey Past Indiana (PA)

INDIANA, Pa. – Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) scored twice, including netting the game-winner with no time remaining, to propel the seventh-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team over the Indiana (PA) Crimson Hawks 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on the road.

Kutztown dominated possession for the majority of the game, creating chance after chance in the IUP offensive end. However, it found itself tied 1-1 in the late stages of a critical PSAC road contest under the lights at George P. Miller Stadium. Down to its final chance in regulation, that all changed in a flash as a Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) corner was worked out top to Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) who then found Donato for the 'walk-off' winner.

The win over IUP is the third in-a-row for KU after defeating Slippery Rock and No. 1 West Chester on Nov. 20 and Nov. 24, respectively. Even with two regular season and potential postseason games remaining, Kutztown's 12 wins are the program's most since 2015. If the Golden Bears reach 13 wins, that would be the highest total for the program since 2008 and the highest-ever in the Marci Scheuing era.

The Golden Bears outshot the Crimson Hawks 19-1 and held a whopping 18-1 advantage in penalty corners. Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) was held off the scoreboard despite 10 shots, nine of which were on net. Roselli tallied an assist on each goal as KU scored off penalty corners both times.

The Crimson Hawks' lone tally came in the first six minutes, but IUP was then on its heels for much of the duration of the game. Donato's first goal came with just over five minutes to go in the first half and her two goals in the game were her third and fourth of the season.

Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) went the distance for KU, earning the win and stopping one shot to improve her season record to 2-0. IUP's Olivia Accardi took the loss despite making 16 saves, to drop her record to 3-10.

Kutztown has one road and one home contest remaining in the 2018 regular season, traveling to Mansfield on Oct. 31 for a 4 p.m. game before returning home on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. for its Senior Day at Andre Reed Stadium.
