Wozniak Nets Hat-trick as No. 6 Field Hockey Clinches PSAC Postseason Berth

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Junior Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) continued her scoring tear this season, netting a hat-trick and also saw classmate Molly Bobjak (New Castle, Del./Padua Academy) record her first career goal as the sixth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team clinched a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) postseason berth with a 4-0 win over Mansfield University Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (13-4 overall, 6-3 PSAC) will be dancing for the first time since the 2015 season, and also have the most wins (13) in a season since 2008 and the highest-ever in the Marci Scheuing era.

Wozniak has had her best season in a Maroon and Gold uniform thus far, scoring 20 goals on the year, the most in the PSAC and third-most in Division II. The current mark also ranks fourth all-time in program history for goals in a season. Her two first-half tallies came within 7:28 of each other, and gave Kutztown some breathing room and momentum heading into halftime with a two-goal cushion.

Bobjak seemingly put the game to rest 11:18 after the interval, notching the first goal of her career.

Wozniak then found the back of the cage for the third time a little over five minutes later to cap the KU offensive outburst.

Freshman Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area), not to be lost in the shuffle of the goal scoring, had a season-high three assists, setting up all three strikes by Wozniak. Dusman now has 10 assists this season, which ranks second in the PSAC behind her teammate Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) who has 11. It is also the fourth-most in a season in program history and most by a freshman.

Kutztown kept the ball on its offensive end a majority of the contest and was the aggressor in creating the scoring chances. It outshot the Mounties 25-6, including 16-2 on cage, and also had a 13-4 edge in penalty corners.

Junior goalie Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made the start and recorded the victory, her fourth this season. Freshman Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) relieved Hanshaw in the 62nd minute and finished with two saves.

Kutztown will now honor its four seniors on senior day in its final regular season game this Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. against Mercyhurst University.
