KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark for her career in the Kutztown University women's volleyball team's 3-0 defeat to the Seton Hill University Griffins on Friday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Wilson, who set the KU freshman digs record with 582 digs last season, racked up 14 digs against SHU, bringing her career total to 1,002 with still a minimum of five matches remaining in 2018.
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)), who is approaching a milestone herself, recorded nine kills and 11 digs to lead the KU offense. Moyer is now just 18 kills shy of reaching 1,000 for her KU career.
Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) totaled six kills on the outside and
Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) added five kills to round out Kutztown's top-three attackers. At the net,
Niki Carpenter (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area) posted a team-high four blocks, adding four kills in the middle.
Abbey James (York, Pa./West York Area) and
Amanda Meck (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) totaled 13 assists a piece as the primary facilitators for the Maroon and Gold.
Kutztown (10-14, 3-11 PSAC) got off to a great start against Seton Hill (16-8, 10-4 PSAC), pushing the Griffins to the brink in the opening set. KU had a 24-23 lead late, but SHU used three unanswered tallies to finish off the Golden Bears, 26-24, in set one.
SHU continued to build its momentum into the second set, ripping off six straight points with the score tied at 13-all to take a commanding 19-13 advantage late in the frame. Seton Hill saw this margin to the finish line, taking set two, 25-16. A surging Griffin squad played its best volleyball in the final set, going ahead 10-3 on its way to a 25-15 third set victory and sweep in the match.
The Golden Bears get back on the court tomorrow afternoon, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m., taking on California (PA) for their Senior Day. KU's five seniors: Carpenter,
Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area), Moyer,
Paige Miller (Halifax, Pa./Halifax (Harrisburg Area C.C)) and Meck will be honored pregame.
