WHEELING, W. Va. – For the second time this season, the Kutztown University men's rugby team went on the road and came away with a win. This time, KU had its largest margin of victories this season, defeating Wheeling Jesuit 36-15 Saturday afternoon in Wheeling, West Virginia.
The Golden Bears (2-2 overall) evened their record on the season with the win.
Wheeling Jesuit actually got onto the scoreboard first via a try 15:00 in.
Lucas Ortner (Melbourne, Australia/Box Hill) got the Maroon and Gold on the board with a try, and followed by a conversion from
Thorne O'Connell (Johannesburg, South Africa/Jeppe), KU went ahead 7-5, a lead it would not relinquish.
Jake Rice (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin),
Aaron Gray (Washington, D.C./Perry Street Prep) and
Keyon McCloud-Holman (Philadelphia, Pa./Benjamin Franklin) all tallied first half tries to give Kutztown a 28-12 lead at halftime, and seemingly put the match away. O'Connell added a penalty kick and McCloud-Holman scored another try in the second half to account for the second half scoring.
Kutztown has one week off before hosting the University of Buffalo on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at the North Campus Rugby Pitch.
