KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team was dropped in four sets by the Millersville University Marauders on Saturday afternoon inside of Keystone Arena.
Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) totaled a team-high 19 kills for the Golden Bears after registering 18 kills on Friday night in Kutztown's win over West Chester.
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) continued her solid play of late, posting her third straight match with double-digit kills as she finished with 12 kills, second on KU. Moyer also collected a career-high 22 digs, recording her second double-double in KU's last three matches.
Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) added six kills in support and
Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove),
Niki Carpenter (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area) and
Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) each posted four kills a-piece to round out the Maroon and Gold's offensive effort.
Amanda Meck (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) and
Abbey James (York, Pa./West York Area) combined for 39 assists to make up the Golden Bears' setting duo. James also racked up 14 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Defensively,
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) averaged 7.0 digs per set, totaling 28 digs, her third consecutive match with 20+ digs.
Both teams showed their offensive prowess in the first two sets as MU took set one 25-14, hitting .250 in the frame. KU then answered with a strong second-set performance, downing the Marauders 25-12. Kutztown posted 13 kills in set two, hitting a match-high .275.
The third set was the most back-and-forth of the afternoon with both teams struggling to gain the upper hand. A late MU run secured the set in its favor, 25-21, despite KU totaling 18 kills in the frame. With the momentum in hand, the Marauders finished off Kutztown 25-15 in the fourth set, winning the match by a 3-1 final score.
KU will have the final game of its current three-game home stand on Monday, Oct. 15, taking on the Cheyney Wolves at 7 p.m.
