Live Stats | Live Video (KUTV) | Game Notes

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team, riding a three-game home winning streak in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play, welcomes the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles on Wednesday evening, Jan. 24. Tip-off from Keystone Arena is slated for 5:30 p.m.

In its last competition, KU started slowly on the road at East Stroudsburg, allowing the Warriors to open the game on a 10-0 run, a deficit it could not overcome. Kutztown committed 28 turnovers in this contest, losing by a 69-59 final score, but did outscore ESU 33-32 in the second half, showing resiliency and fight to the end. Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) continued to shoot the ball effectively from distance, scoring 18 points on 6-of-14 from downtown while also adding a career-high eight rebounds. Gabbi Wright (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) also equaled a career-high with 14 points in the game, going an efficient 6-of-7 from the field and adding two makes from the charity stripe. Derr earned the PSAC Eastern Division's Freshman of the Week Award on Jan. 22, totaling a combined 13 three-point makes at a blistering 56.5 percent clip and averaging 20.5 ppg in KU's games versus Cheyney and East Stroudsburg.

The Golden Bears (10-8, 5-7 PSAC) have officially reached the stretch run of the 2017-18 campaign with ten games remaining in the regular season, sitting in a clustered middle of the table in the PSAC Eastern Division standings. KU is one game clear in third place, but has both Millersville and Mansfield right on its heels, with both teams one-half game back at 5-8 in the conference. The Maroon and Gold, sporting a 9-1 record at home this season, will need to continue their winning ways in 'The Den' to continue to keep pace with the likes of Millersville and Mansfield, in order to guarantee a top-four finish, which would secure a first round home game in PSAC playoffs.

With Lock Haven (3-14, 2-11) standing in the way of the program's first 10-win season at home since 2010-11, KU hosts a Bald Eagles squad which has struggled this season, especially away from home. LHU is 0-7 on the road in 2017-18 and, most recently, fell to the Cheyney University Wolves at home, 80-73. Lock Haven was outscored, 27-2, in the first quarter by the Wolves, a deficit it couldn't surmount despite outscoring Cheyney 71-53 in the final three frames.

Bald Eagles' sophomore guard Rileigh Devine is a player for Kutztown to pay special attention to, LHU's leader in points per game with 11.1 ppg. Devine is also Lock Haven's primary three-point threat, having made 34 three-point attempts this year and having 50-plus more attempts than the next player on her team. On the inside, Maimuna Kenneh and Ahnera Parker are both solid contributors in the paint, with Kenneh as the team's leading rebounder averaging 9.0 rebounds per game and Parker leading the team in field goals made with 57, shooting at 47.1 percent.

Lock Haven, which sits towards the bottom of the PSAC averaging just 61.0 ppg, will have to lock down Kutztown from the three-point line to keep this game competitive. KU is first in the PSAC East with 7.2 made three-pointers per game and LHU has allowed opponents to shoot 36.6 percent from distance this season. Additionally, the Bald Eagles have the task, in this tilt, of going against the PSAC's top duo in three-pointers made per game as Derr and Alexis Smith (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) average a combined 4.6 made three-pointers per game.
