Complete Game Notes

SERIES HISTORY:
Saturday marks the fourth meeting between Kutztown and Mercyhurst. KU won the first two meetings in their NCAA Tournament seasons of 2010 and 2011, but fell last season at Andre Reed Stadium, 23-19. Including 2017, all four matchups between KU and MU will be played during Week 2 of KU's season.

SETTING THE TONE: Craig Reynolds (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) opened 2017 with 335 all-purpose yards against Assumption, the second-most in a game in school history. It was the most in Division II last week and was 10 yards shy of tying his school-record of 345 set last season at East Stroudsburg.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Kutztown leads the PSAC averaging 20 yards per punt return and 24 yards per kick return.

KICK RETURN TD: Kutztown allowed a 97-yard kickoff return last week against Assumption, the first kickoff return touchdown against KU since 2010 and the first in a KU game since 2013.

NEW-LOOK OFFENSIVE LINE: KU graduated three starting offensive lineman last year, and 114 games of combined experience.

TEAM CAPTAINS: Kutztown's three team captains this year are Ronny Tomasetti (Dickson City, Pa./Mid-Valley), Craig Reynolds (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) and Tajier Jefferson (East Orange, N.J./Queen of Peace). KU will also feature a fourth team captain on gameday.

SACK LUNCH: Kutztown had three sacks against Assumption last week, second-most in the PSAC.

DON'T RUN AT RONNY: Ronny Tomasetti (Dickson City, Pa./Mid-Valley), a team captain, earned All-PSAC and All-Region honors last year. He co-led the PSAC with two sacks last week against Assumption. He has 17 career sacks, ninth in school history, eyeing the record of 25.5.

TACKLING TJ: Tajier Jefferson (East Orange, N.J./Queen of Peace) had a career-high 15 tackles last week against Assumption - second-most in the PSAC - with an interception and a forced fumble. He is a two-year All-PSAC starting linebacker and a 2017 team captain with 165 career tackles and 26 tackles-for-loss. He has only missed one game in his career.

LEADING TACKLER: Jalen Nieves (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) has played in 28 career games with 178 tackles and four interceptions.

PRIMETIME PUNTER: Freshman punter Dean Krcic (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) had a busy day last week with nine punts, but averaged a strong 46.7 average, No. 2 in Division II.

MAGIC NUMBER = 24: KU head coach Jim Clements is 15-1 in his Kutztown career when holding opponents to 24 or fewer points. His only loss was to Mercyhurst in 2016 (23-19).

PSAC EAST CHAMPS: Kutztown won its third PSAC East title in program history last year, joining previous title teams from 1980 and 2011. KU went 7-0 in the PSAC East, its first perfect PSAC season in school history.

WINNING SEASON: KU has posted three-straight winning seasons, extending head coach Jim Clements' career streak to 11 straight.

RUSHING RECORD: The Golden Bears ran for a school-record 29 touchdowns last season, and posted the second-most rushing yards at 2,492.

RETURNING QB: Redshirt-sophomore Collin DiGalbo (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) earned All-PSAC East Second Team honors and the PSAC East Freshman of the Year last year. On the ground, he broke four school-rushing-records for a quarterback – touchdowns in a game (3) and season (8), longest run (82) and most rushing yards in a game (126).

WINNING QUARTERBACK: Collin DiGalbo (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) holds a record of 6-2 as a starting quarterback.

EARLY SEASON SLUMPS: In the last four years, KU has posted a 2-8 record in its opening games before starting divisional play.

STOPPING THE RUN: KU's success under second-year head coach Jim Clements has stood true with its defensive ability to stop the run. Under Clements, KU is 10-1 when holding its opponent to less than 100 yards rushing. His only loss was to Mercyhurst in 2016.
